Is There Any Place Where I Can See Ruins And Get The Chance To Help Excavate In Mexico?

I would like to take my girlfriend who loves ancient history and archaeology on a trip to help excavate some site, as well as see some preserved ruins. Our priorities for the trip in order would be, relaxing, sight-seeing, excavating. Any advice? Thanks in advance

    Carlos is correct, Mexico will not let any untrained volunteers dig in Mexico.
    There are many, many you can visit. You can fly into Cancun; rent a car and drive to all the sites in the Yucatan. See the map in the first link below.
    I’ve been to digs in Honduras and Belize through Earthwatch. There are 16 expeditions on the secon link below. See if there’s one that interests you. The expeditions are kind of expensive, but they’re tax deductible if you itemize your taxes, because you’re donating your time to research.

    I don’t know about excavating, but you can definitely see ancient ruins if you visit the Mayan Riviera. I am going to Puerta Aventura next year and I am told that there are ruins all over the place. Archeology is a big tourist draw in the area, including the popular Tulum, Xcaret and Xel-Ha sites.
    We were in Cozumel recently and we visited the ruins there. From what I am told they are nothing compared to what you will find on the mainland.

    you cant excavate, everything is protected by the INAH
    Tulum: maya riuns by the sea, near CanCun;
    Palenque and Bonampak: maya ruins in the middle of the jungle, at Chiapas
    Monte alban and Mitls: olmec-totonac ruins at the mountains (Oaxaca)
    Teotihuacan: ruins at mexico city (45 mins distance)
    Chichenitza: one of the new world wonders; maya ruins in Merida, Yucatan
    those r the most important ones in mexico (not in order); u can check and decide

    years ago I use to subscribe to Archeology Magazine and there were classified ads where you could sign on for volunteer work at a site in latin america….check out something like that or google it.
